about

SKETCHES, visual etudes (op.1) (2020) – is a set of graphic etudes (solo, duo and ensemble pieces) for various musicians, dancers and the installation of the graphic scores. The general concept is based on the understanding that music/sound extends beyond the audible: that we can see/hear/feel sound, imagined or concretely heard. Project SKETCHES is a phenomenological investigation and research into embodied aspects of sonic imagination and sound expression. The graphic etudes address cross-modal representation and communication of musical expression, and facilitate implementation of the interdisciplinary cross-modal language on stage, while juxtaposing both the musical and non-musical means of communication via visually augmented auditory imagination by means of visual graphic notation.

SKETCHES were developed in close collaboration with the New Ensemble | BY (voice: Tatiana Marchenko, flute: Andrej Shereshovets, bass guitar: Victor Huts and dancers: Eugenia Nikolaichuk and Olga Skvortsova), and presented in three interdisciplinary interactive concert-lectures, and an ongoing exhibition of large-format graphic artworks (scores) at The Minsk Museum of History (September 23-October 11, 2020, Belarus) to an audience from various creative fields.

Aliona Yurtsevich

Aliona Yurtsevich is a composer who has firmly situated herself within the “interdisciplinary” field of music composition, in which music is an alchemical substance that perfectly melts and unifies all other art forms – of word, gesture, image, idea, technology – into a transcendent and satisfying whole, with music itself as a co-dependent member of a broader alliance. ... more
